Why custom

Students listen when the facts are their own

Off-the-shelf programs use national numbers and generic examples. A curriculum built for your state uses the data, laws and places your students already know, and it follows what research shows works in prevention.

  • Your state's data. Youth Risk Behavior Survey results, overdose and crash data, and local trends such as vapes, cannabis edibles and counterfeit pills.
  • Your laws and standards. State drug, alcohol and impaired-driving laws, and alignment with your health education standards.
  • Evidence-based methods. Interactive lessons, refusal and decision-making skills and real social norms, with no scare tactics.
  • Ready to teach. Scripted lessons that teachers, officers and prevention staff can deliver without extra prep.

About the certification
Funding

Ways agencies often pay for prevention curriculum

Many state agencies fund curriculum development through existing prevention dollars. Common sources include:

SUPTRS Block Grant prevention set-aside

Federal block grant funds that states must spend in part on primary substance use prevention.

Opioid settlement funds

Many states and counties direct settlement dollars to youth prevention and education.

Highway safety funds

NHTSA highway safety grants, including impaired-driving countermeasure funds, administered by state highway safety offices.

Federal education funds

Title IV-A Student Support and Academic Enrichment funds, which can support safe and healthy students programs.

Eligibility depends on each program's rules and your state's plan. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we can provide a scope of work, budget and W-9 for your procurement process.

FAQ

Common questions

How long does it take to build a custom curriculum?

Most curricula are complete within 2–4 weeks once the plan is approved. Larger projects, such as a full K–12 sequence, may take longer, and we'll give you a timeline up front.

Who owns the finished curriculum?

Your agency does. You can print, share and update it statewide with no per-student or annual license fees.

Can it align with our state standards?

Yes. We align lessons with your state's health education standards and any program requirements you share with us, and we use your state's data and laws throughout.

What audiences and grade levels can you cover?

Elementary, middle and high school students, driver education students, parents, and adult or justice-involved audiences. We can build one audience or a full sequence.

Can you update a curriculum we already have?

Yes. We can review and modernize an existing curriculum, adding current drug trends, state data and interactive activities.

How much does a custom curriculum cost?

Each project is quoted after a free consultation, based on audiences, lesson count and training needs. We can provide a scope of work and budget for your procurement process.

Do you train the people who will teach it?

Yes. We train your educators live online, on site or at your state conference, and instructors can earn the Drug Educator Certification.
